As a not-for-profit organization that produces the Seattle and Puyallup RV Shows, the MHRV Association also strives to help support the RV lifestyle and outdoor recreation. Part of that effort includes occasional donations to other organizations that need financial support to enable more outdoor programs and services.

Washington State Parks

If you’ve been to any of the RV shows, you may know that $1 of every gate ticket (matched by our Presenting Sponsor, WSECU) is set aside to donate to Washington State Parks. This year’s total from the shows was $23,554. A check for that amount was presented to the Parks this past June. So how is that money spent?

June marks America’s official Great Outdoors Month!  In recent years, it has been sanctioned by a proclamation signed by the President and all 50 State Governors. In support of this celebration, the President and several State Governors began hosting Capital Campouts.

The purpose of the Campouts is to expose youth to the world of camping. Thousands of kids and their families, especially from urban areas, have participated in memorable camping experiences nationwide providing children with a camping, hiking and outdoor experience they would not otherwise have.

Washington State Parks also participates in this event with this year’s Capital Campout taking place at Dosewallips State Park on Hood Canal. A good portion of the RV Show’s donated funds go toward this event.

In addition to this annual event, the Parks have indicated that some of the money will also go toward installing wifi in a couple of state parks, most likely Pacific Beach State Park that is frequented with many RVers.

Regional Special Vehicle Unit – Search & Rescue

Regional Special Vehicle Unit (RSVU) is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization, based in King County and Washington State, specializing in mobile search and rescue operations in terrain that would not be passable by conventional vehicles (ATV’s and Snowmobiles). With roots in mobile, mountain and ground searches, they have a team of rescuers, communications and wilderness specialists to assist in active rescue, search and/or recovery missions.

RSVU recently received a great donation of a pick-up truck that would enable hauling of their specialized equipment out to base Search and Rescue operations.  At issue was the additional need for insurance for this unit and MHRV was able to provide that support. These may be the people you need if you are ever lost or in trouble on your outdoor outings. Our own Show Director is an active volunteer with RSVU.
