"Fill the Toyhauler"

Two new partnerships were formed at this year's Puyallup RV Show; a new presenting sponsorship with TwinStar Credit Union and a charitable partnership with Emergency Food Network (EFN). A special promotion to "Fill the Toyhauler" was introduced asking people to bring non-perishable food items and place them in the toyhauler just inside the gate. Food items would go to EFN while the Puyallup RV Show (MHRV Show Association) along with TwinStar Credit Union would match these donations pound for pound. The promotion helped support EFN's May Hunger Awareness Month in Pierce County.

We were pleased to see the numerous food contributions made totaling 500 pounds! For the matching portions, both TwinStar Credit Union and the Puyallup RV Show presented checks for $835 each to EFN for a total cash donation of $1,670.

What do these donations mean? EFN is a food warehouse distributor that supports 71 food programs in Pierce County. Their mission is to provide Pierce County with a consistant, diverse, and nutritious food supply so that no person goes hungry. On average there are 113,373 visits to food programs in Pierce County each month with a ratio of 1 in 7 people who are food insecure (not knowing where their next meal will come from). When you do a food drive such as "Fill the Toyhauler", the food is then "repackaged" into portable boxes to go out to food pantries. Often, this repackaging is done through volunteers from local businesses who will take a day or part of a day to help.

Significant value is gained through cash donations. This is where EFN can use their buying power with their partners and state and federal programs. For every $1 donated, EFN distributes $12 worth of food!  82% of the food EFN distributes comes from community food drives and donations.
