Northwest RVing

The Northwest RVing Blog site is hosted by MHRV (Manufactured Housing and Recreational Vehicle) Show Association. Each year, MHRV presents two important trade shows in the greater Seattle area to promote and display the RV Lifestyle. We are all about RVing and hope you will enjoy the many articles posted here about RVing in general and about our upcoming shows.

Adventures in Montana

For those of you that have attended my Boondocking 101 seminar and are still a little apprehensive of taking your first step into the boonies; I will be sharing a few back-country adventures complete with boondocking locations on and off over the next several months. So be ready to capture some coordinates, enter them into Google Earth, apply what I have taught you and prepare to head out in the RV this summer.

First up will be a little-known mining camp in western Montana known as the Smuggler Mine.

Pilot Houses

Planning a RV trip to Alaska and other points north this summer? Keep in mind that a trip to Alaska is more about the journey than the destination. Rush to Alaska as the gold miners did and you will miss many of the best sites along the route.

An RV trip to Alaska via the famous Alaska Highway will take you through the Yukon Territory where there is much to see and experience. During the early days, there were no roads or RVs in the Yukon, only sternwheeler service on the Yukon River which began in 1866 providing the only source of reliable transportation.  With the discovery of gold near Dawson City in 1896, the Yukon River between Whitehorse and Dawson became a major riverboat route. All told, some 250 sternwheelers were built to navigate the Yukon River and its tributaries from 1866 to 1936.

Winter Fun

Daily protests on the evening news, political discord on social media and other dispiriting issues have you yearning for an escape? Then plan a winter campout and take a break from life’s stressors!

While an RV is the perfect escape vehicle any time of year, here are eight reasons to go winter camping.

It Costs Less – Most RV parks and campgrounds offer winter rates with considerable savings compared to peak summer rates. In Washington State, seniors can purchase an off-season state park pass for $75 which allows them to camp for free in standard campsites from October through the end of March or utility sites for $10 per night.

Mobile Show App

After each Seattle RV Show, we survey attendees to get feedback so that we can make improvements for next year’s show. One of the consistent topics we get has to do with navigating the vast sea of RVs and finding your way around. When you're in amongst the various units, it can be very difficult to see where you are and where you want to go. Especially when there are three Halls with RVs everywhere!

Hundreds of RVs

It seems like after the New Year there is an RV show every other weekend in the Pacific Northwest. How do you know which one to attend? Shouldn’t you just attend the one closest to your home? They are all the same right?  No, all RV shows are not created equal! Let’s take a look at some of the features the upcoming 2017 Seattle RV Show offers that other RV shows don’t.

The Seattle RV Show is the largest indoor RV show in the State of Washington and features more dealers than any other RV show in the state.  All the major Puget Sound RV dealers are exhibiting at the 2017 Seattle RV Show.
